P2: Semester 1, 2022 Project Announcement

We are excited to announce our second project team for Semester 2, 2022: First Nations and Data Sovereignty.

Our incredible team consists of Jessica Huynh (Team Leader), Ailish Dey, Connor O'Sullivan, Laura Walton and Olivia Trimboli. By producing a roadmap on how FNDS can be achieved in a criminal justice context, the final report will assist the Wungening Aboriginal Corporation in their advocacy for FNDS.

P1: Semester 1, 2022 Project Announcement

We are excited to announce our first Project Team for Semester 1, 2022: Fitness to Stand Trial: under the Criminal Law (Mentally Impaired Accused) Act 1996 (WA). The team consists of Policy Analysts: Max Hinch, Hugo Brossard, Maria Ambrose, Lachie Phillips, Charlotte Salom (Team Leader). The Project is in partnership with the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH) and is supervised by Liz Connor (Senior Policy Officer, Mental Health and Public Health) from WAAMH. The Project Team will be closely mentored by Nicholas Versteegen from Mental Health Law Centre and Magistrate Felicity Zempilas.

WAJA hosted its very first panel event on Wednesday, 20th October: Effective Methods for Reducing Crime and Recidivism. The panel focussed on bringing to light some key issues in the criminal justice system before turning to effective methods and solutions for reducing crime and recidivism in our community.
